Children’s book scheme receives cash boost

A book-gifting scheme for under-fives, which is being set up on a Bradford estate, has received a cash boost of £1,000 from a Yorkshire charity.
Canterbury Imagine is affiliated to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, set up by the country singer in the US. The idea is that youngsters registered with the scheme receive a free book every month from birth until their fifth birthday.
The Scurrah Wainwright charity, which is based in Rawdon , has offered the cash which will be used to fund books for around 40 children for a whole year.
Canterbury Imagine founder and organiser Jan Winter praised the “wonderful gift” from the charity, and added: “Our priority now is asking businesses to sponsor a group of children over three or more years.
A launch event will take place on September 21, from 1pm, at Canterbury Nursery School.
