Couple celebrate their golden wedding

Trevor and Jeanette marked their golden wedding Trevor and Jeanette marked their golden wedding

Trolleybus driver Trevor Roper had the perfect pick-up excuse when he met the girl he was to marry 50 years ago.

Mr Roper was 21 and Jeanette just sweet 16 when he had to lift her onto his bus at the Central Avenue stop in Little Horton – because her pencil skirt was too tight.

“She could only move from her knees down. There was no way she was going to get on board herself so I had to carry her on,” said Mr Roper, whose family ran the Gaping Goose pub in Wibsey.

The pair became sweethearts, marrying at St Paul’s Church in Wibsey on July 14, 1962, and went on to have three sons and one grandson, Elliot.

The happy couple, who now live at Northowram Green, Northowram, ran an SOS Recovery business in Bradford until retirement.

They celebrated their big day with a family party in a marquee.
