Bradford Bulls players 'in the dark' after crisis meeting cancelled
10:58am Tuesday 3rd July 2012 in News
Matt Diskin has accused the administrators of a lack of respect
The crisis at Bradford took a new twist today when the players arrived for talks with the administrator only to discover the meeting was off.
Brendan Guilfoyle, who yesterday made 15 backroom and coaching staff redundant in efforts to cut costs, had asked the players to report for a 10am meeting at the club’s training ground at Tong, near Cleckheaton.
But the players discovered, through a third party, that the meeting had been cancelled without explanation.
Joint captain Matt Diskin said: “We’ve all turned up with the impression that we were meeting Brendan Guilfoyle to find out some more news but ten minutes beforehand we found he’s not given us the courtesy of turning up.
“We’re in the dark, as we have been through the whole process. We don’t know what is happening.
“We’re heard rumours right, left and centre and some of them have come to pass now. It’s very frustrating from a player’s point of view to lose people we have worked very closely with over the last few years. It’s been emotional as well.
“The pure lack of communication is quite disrespectful in our eyes.”
Bradford are due to play London Broncos in their next Stobart Super League fixture at Odsal on Sunday amid rumours that former coach Brian Noble is set to take charge, but Diskin expressed grave reservations about the game.
“We turned up today ready to train,” he said. “Everyone has got their kit but there’s nobody turned up.
“There is a game scheduled for Sunday but, in all honesty, how can we fulfil that fixture without any coaching staff? We’re not allowed in the gym because of health and safety reasons.
“I hope we can play the game but it’s going to be very hard without any staff in place.”

Well done to the organisers for a thankless task under difficult circumstances to say the least.
I was horrified that the Director from Greenwood's was given a hard time by a few at the meeting, isn't that what we needed, massive investment from an interested party yet he was almost ridiculed by some and effectively dismissed by BG. Why was that? BG is a sharp tongued seasoned professional with only his interests at heart, believe me he is an assassin posing as the 'nice guy'!
Did anyone else notice a couple of his back tracks (some may say untruths!) - denied B.Noble was part of the plan and then later implying it was too good an offer to turn down - well, this one will prove itself or not, we won't have long to wait. The other was that he said he decided on the redundancies at his kitchen table on Sunday night - later he said that he didn't implement the redundancies last week so as not to disrupt the team in the run up to the Wigan game - what difference would that have really made to the overall survival on our club? Conflicting stories here.
Hope the guy from Greenwood's hasn't been totally put off by shabby treatment from the Administrators.... please God!
.
Re Players meeting..... absolutely disgraceful! What else would you expect from this shower?

I also saw the mention of Solomona being signed from Wakefield in similar circumstances. What? We paid a fee for him and Wakefield were not in admin. If Wakefield had been relegated his contract would have been cancelled and we could have signed him for free but John Kear kept them up.

As for Nobby, well if the rumours are true, then if he is willing to come back for free (for a while) and it helps keep the club together then I would not object.
We might not like it as fans, but in this situation I'm afraid it seems that old fashioned concepts like decency and morals are out (otherwise MP wouldn't have been shown the door). In this respect, Guilfoyle is only doing his job, whether we like it or not.

I for one wont be paying in on Sunday as the money will not go to the players. I will also not renew my season ticket next year if there is any sniff of involvement from Caisley. The whole thing stinks and the smell goes right back to Caisley.

I do not like the fact that all the staff have been laid off especially as they must have all been putting in the hours in an attempt to save the club. The way Mick Potter and his team has turned the team around is fantastic and he must be an inspirational boss.
But the cold hard fact is there is no money. People are saying that it was wrong to let them go, that it is underhand to treat them in this way. But would it have been better to let them all keep working next month and then at the end of the month say “sorry, there is no money for wages and then not pay them”, because there isn’t any money.
All the staff have been told upfront that there is no money and they have had to be let go. They are I suppose all looking for new jobs as we all would be in their situation, and I understand that you don’t work for free, but if they were now to work for free that would be a great plus on their CV showing in actions the type of employee they are and the amount of commitment they would give to any perspective employer, just like putting any voluntary positions you hold on a CV.
I hope that the club comes out of this and we can all get on with our lives as usual and just worry about the score on a Sunday afternoon. There is only one winner here the administrator. Good luck to all involved.

We will see who he gives the club too.
Ironically I was doing some research on old T & A papers at Central Library and stumbled on the clubs liquidation 1n 1964 and our revival under decent honest people, Trevor must be spinning like a top in his grave.

Its like all companies that go into administration, if you have orders to fulfill and the customer wants the goods then you make them and get paid if you are part of the skeleton staff remaining to fill the orders by law the administrator as to you your wage, if the players i-e the goods play on Sunday and they take money on the gate then they have preformed their contract stipulations and will be paid the same as any other company where the staff are asked by the administrator to carry on working would be. Also we need a coach and back up staff as well, if people are prepared to help out for the good of the club great, One volenteer is better than ten men especially of the calibre of Brian Noble, i am just surprised that Mick and his backroom boys did not want to give it a go at least for this weeks game which would give investors more time to come forward, What would 1or 2 weeks mean inthe long run, and if potential investors see this type of commitment and loyalty they just might get the job back, if not they would be forever held in high esteem by the supporters of Bradford Bulls what have they got too lose.
As DJH states, why didn't Potter and the others offer to work a couple of weeks for nothing? They're out of work and not being paid anyway, so what did they have to lose? It would have bought more time and exhibited committment to any potentialinvestors. Likewise, what pay sacrifices have the players made in an effort to save the club, and their livelihoods?
It's all very laudable that season ticket holders are willing to pay at the gate for the Broncos game, but I don't see any of those directly involved offering their bit.
That said, they should never have found themselves in this position and those that have caused it need to be held accountable.

Brian Noble has confirmed for the first time that he has been approached by the administrator trying to save the Bradford Bulls to take over on an emergency basis before Sunday's game against London Broncos. But the former Great Britain coach, who spent more than three decades at Odsal as Bradford's captain and then their most successful coach, says he is reconsidering his initial willingness to help out after being shocked by the negative reaction it has provoked.
Noble returned to the country only on Monday after a six-week break in Australia and Fiji. That coincided with a morning of the long knives at Odsal, as the administrator laid off 16 members of Bradford's off-field staff including the head coach, Mick Potter.
"The administrator phoned me up, told me the situation and asked if I could help out for a while, maybe until the end of the season," Noble told the Guardian. "As a Bradfordian through and through who's been made a freeman of the city, and having spent 35 years at the club, I said 'yes'. That's been my only motive whatsoever, to try and help out."
He confirmed that he had immediately approached Francis Cummins, the former Leeds wing who had been one of Potter's assistants, to work alongside him. "You need a thread to keep it going," Noble explained. "I know Franny, he's a good guy and a good coach who is going to be a head coach himself. And I couldn't do it by myself anyway, there would just have been too much to do.
"I actually left him a message and then he left me a message back saying that, with everything that had happened, he didn't think he could do it. We did speak later in the night and that's the way it was left, but by that stage they'd had the supporters' meeting when Mick said there was some kind of conspiracy theory going on. Do you know what, I don't need that. There's no kind of conspiracy.
"I've been thinking it over and it might just be too tough a gig. If people think I'm involved in it for any other sort of reason, I'm flabbergasted. There's no guarantees at the end of it because you don't know who's going to be the owners and what they'll want to do. First and foremost I'm sad and disappointed at what's happened to Mick, because he's a mate of mine.
"I really don't need all this vitriolic stuff being thrown at me. I'm happy with the company I'm working for – I've been offered two more jobs this week."
Noble's change of heart is thought to be the reason behind the late postponement of a meeting the administrator had called with the players for their training ground on Wednesday morning. The Rugby Football League was still expecting Gary Tasker, another key figure in the club's golden era, to take over as interim chief executive, although the administrator has yet to confirm that appointment either.
Several of the players have expressed anger at the lack of information they are receiving and there are still major doubts about whether Sunday's home match will go ahead.

Our thoughts are with Mick and the players, plus all the innocent staff who have been made the scapegoats for failures that had nothing whatsoever to do with them.
Lastly our feelings are with Brian Noble, who is being villified by the morans who are not fit to be called supporters of this great club.

Noble backing out of their master plan probably did cause Guilfoyle a major problem this morning. It must have been a serious moment to cause him to cancel a major meeting without a word. I don't believe even he is that bad mannered. It must have been very important to cause him to do that. Wouldn't we all love to be a fly on the wall in the background to see what is really happening? Still confident though that a game plan is in action even though one of the key pieces (not necessarily a key player) may have dropped out of the game today due to unexpected anger and the danger of losing his good name with thousands of fans. The excrement hits the fan at Odsal.
Now im no fan of Sadford but you lot take some beating! have none of you been through the process of a business being taken into admin and then liquidised?
Mr X (C) will be back on Friday with a new company, the backing of the RFL and a tidy assett for next to nowt!!!
Then your beloved Bulls will be back in SL with a limited company which will yet again line Mr X (C)'s pockets and the only prson winning in all of this will be Mr X (C).
The conduct of the liquidisation has been farcical but no-one has come forward with a financial package to take over a company losing 120k a month and why would they?
Maybe MaccaBingo1 is a little bit closer to the Mr X (C) camp than a lot of people give him credit for!!!
Liquidation by its very nature is a cagey game, an owner can win or lose their business at the last minute to a very prudent bidder and they MUST follow financial guidelines. Come Friday and the sale of the assets even I may be able to buy the Bulls and its assets for a couple of quid!!!!!
The liquidators do not want a well organised fans forum / fans takeover and thus throw a smokescreen around meetings etc.
The original owners (or a holding company) will buy back the business and hey presto!!!
We have Bulls!
BUT dont be deluded it will be a very tightly run ship for a couple of years until the profits start to generate.
Then were back to square one.
Or maybe the Bulls will disappear??????
Who Knows?

Brendan Guilfoyle insinuated that the RFL will not allow a past director to be classed as a fit n proper person to run the club. Hence they would not allow a past director to take over the superleague franchise.
There was a lot of mickey mouse silly questionsd and proposals pout forward last night. The one hope we can hold out for is this Greenwoods Director and the Chinese backers they claim to have. The gentleman concerned seemed to have a lot of inside knowledge like the offers on the table for Kopjack, Gale, Bateman. The administrator advised that they were very poor offers and that he had refused to sell them at such a price
He also said clubs that had placed offers for a player had spoken to him and advised you did it to us so we are going to do to you what you did to us... We took Solomona off Wakefield etc under similar circumstances
Season tickets will still be valid on Sunday but the administrator said he needed 5000 paying fans through the gate to swell the bank account as there was only £20k in the account at the minute
