A massive vote of confidence in the system that handed the city centre to private developers.

More significant than council seat results as those results are temporary. We could have been stuck with a rogue mayor for years.

Sigh of relief here...

Bradford will regret this no vote.Voters could have waited to see who would have put their names forward and then decided to vote or not.Bradford will not move forward with the present polictical system we have.

If we'd waited to see the candidates the money would already have been wasted.
What are the chances that the candidates would have been anything other than the usual candidates with their noses in the publicly funded trough.

How come 4400 votes were rejected. I hope there was nothing dodgy going on?

Wouldn't have changed the outcome even if all were yes votes.
Just shows over 4000 of our fellow Bradfordians don't know how to put an X on a piece of paper..

With yet another mess of a council about to continue, an elected Mayor might have been the better route.

An elected mayor would have been an expensive extra level of bureaucracy- good decision Bradford.

The only good thing out of this is Ian Greenwood can't be elected mayor now.

Think Bradford has made a big mistake by not voting for the Mayoral system. After all you would have been given the chance to vote for a candidate in November as to who "leads" Bradford. Now Ian Greenwood has gone, a new leader for the council will be voted in by themselves behind closed doors. Not a good system has history has already shown.

At last, a sensible decision - we can't afford an elected mayor!

I voted No because last thing i would want to see is George Galloway as mayor which would happen with the asain youth yote & support.

How so when the post would have been up for re-election in 4 years time?

If there was even an inkling that the mayor would have been chosen from a pool of well-meaning, respectable local business men then it would have been a good idea worth following through, as is more likely you would have had the self-serving snout in trough types being put up like Greenwood, oh dear now departed, and Galloway, who will be riding away on his white charger over the next few years anyway.

Time for these people and their terms of employment to be put under scrutiny. Are they, unlike any other employee, allowed to continue in their posts without performance appraisal and proven achievement of objectives? As public posts, are we as citizens allowed access to their job descriptions and, perhaps more importantly, how their performance is monitored and rated and, in particular, by whom? The thought that certain people can continue in incompetent employment while the city dies depresses me more than words can say.

The way things have been going one would have though all Bradfordians would have been begging for a change.

The one thing we can take away from this is that apparently the majority of the people are happy the way the council run things and enjoy the view of a crater in the middle of the city...

Maybe they just don't see an elected mayor as the answer.

I am old enough to recall the damage doen to Bradford over the last 40 years with Labour lead, Tory Lead and Hung council. We have swung from one self serving lot with their political issues to the other with opposing. Party politics has causes the argument over the garden fence whilst in the backgound the flowers rotted and the pests and disease took hold. I think we need a council that is not politically focussed but Bradford focussed. Trade unionists and Free masons, all the same.

Greenwood and Galloway already expressed an interest in doing it. Thank the lord god McCall we voted no as a city.

It was fear of someone of Galloway's ilk that probably swung it to a no vote. Ironic as Galloway was wanting us to vote yes!

Yes and certain elements in Bradford, could have put forward a candidate, amassed thousands of postal vote from god (or perhaps Allah) knows where and we could have been well shafted for years to come.
