The torrential rain that has decimated the area for the past fortnight claimed only one victim in the weekend’s fixtures of the Bradford Sunday Alliance League.

The Premier Division clash between Wyke Wanderers and new champions Buttershaw White Star was an early victim, with the match being called off on Friday by Kirklees Council.

Deposed champions West Bowling entertained Westwood Park and won by the odd goal in 11 to clinch the runners-up spot this season.

The pick of the goals was a wonderful finish by Curtis McMarne with ten minutes to go.

The hosts were leading 5-2 at the interval but a determined display by the visitors brought the scores level, only for McMarne to seal victory in the closing stages.

In Division 1A, Victoria Rangers secured the remaining promotion place with an eight-goal victory over Wyke Rangers. Nicky Walker hit a hat-trick for the runners-up.

Stanningley Albion secured the Division 1B title with a 5-0 victory over Wrose Bull, with Jarrett hitting a brace for the new champions.

That sealed the league and cup double for Stanningley, who lost just once all season. They will be a welcome addition to Division One.

White Hart’s Division 2A title ambitions took a blow when they were beaten with strikes from Nathan Hargreaves and Andrew Wood as Queensbury surprised them with a 2-0 win.

The league title will be decided next week when White Hart play Ancient Forresters, who need maximum points to pip them.

New Tyke beat Stock Lane United 4-1 in Division 2B thanks to a Nathan Barraclough hat-trick In Division 3A, Swaine Green won 5-2 at George Hotel with two apiece from Elliot Holmes and Lewis Brown.

After their impressive victory in the district cup final, Steel Bangle followed up with a 10-2 thrashing of rock-bottom Cricketers Arms. Davinder Romana and Dave Simmonds both claimed trebles.

The result also took Bangle past the 100 league goals tally for the season. They need to win both remaining games to clinch the title.

Cricketers Arms’ goals came from Wayne Brotherton and goalkeeper Chris Scott.

Cuedos Reserves went goal crazy against Dudley Hill Keys with a crushing 12-1 victory.

Andy Melgram returned from a broken ankle to make his first start for 20 months and managed to get himself on the score sheet.
