Residents in three streets have become officially ‘off limits’ to doorstep traders.
Station Road, The Whartons and the Wrenbeck estate, in Otley, all became Cold Calling Control Zones – where unsolicited doorstep trading is banned.
Backed by West Yorkshire Police as an important crime prevention tool, the scheme has been driven by Otley Neighbourhood Watch which hopes to roll it out across town.
The group's Pauline Hanson and Adele Carr, who have driven the project assisted by West Yorkshire Trading Standards, said they were delighted to finally see the first signs go up.
Pauline said: “We started with this on March 10, 2011, so it’s great to see, 12 months on, it finally coming into being.”
