Crowds of Bradfordians flooded into the new multi-million pound showpiece City Park for its official opening this afternoon.

Thousands of extra visitors watched on as the world’s most experienced urban free runners performed springs, flips and vaults through steam rising from the 4,000 sq metre Mirror Pool in the first public display of its kind.

The parkour team, which numbered about 50 athletes, are just one of the acts who will be performing until a firework, laser and light extravaganza planned for 7pm brings the afternoon of celebrations to an end.

Street theatre groups, stilt walkers, Bradford Brass Bands, drummers and musicians playing ska, dixie and Latin music will entertain in City Park and Centenary Square throughout the day.

The launch event marks the end of a major two-year construction projects which has involved workers working for more than 330,000 hours to create the park.

More details and pictures from the major event will appear on the Telegraph & Argus website later and a full report will be printed in Monday’s T&A.
