Young people in Girlington now have their own chill-out zone and a range of activities after funding from Bradford West Area Committee for the development and refurbishment of the facility at Girlington Community Centre.

The zone was officially opened on Thursday.

Bradford West Area Co-ordinator’s Office, Bradford Youth Service and volunteers and staff from Girlington Community Centre have also had an active involvement in developing the scheme.

Drop-in sessions will be held on Thursdays between 5pm and 8pm.

Youth workers have been meeting young people in the area to involve them in the design, decor and layout of the Youth Zone.

Area committee chairman Councillor Sajawal Hussain said: “We are really pleased to support this project and are confident that young people will be able to come here and have fun.”

Councillor Imran Hussain, deputy leader of Bradford Council, said: “This will be a real boost for the local young people and they will really take ownership of the Youth Zone because they have been so heavily involved from the start and have made such a positive contribution.

“This zone will provide young people with positive and fun activities.”
