Queensbury’s Black Dyke Band swept to a sensational victory at Bradford’s St George’s Hall tonight to deny rivals Brighouse & Rastrick an historic hat-trick of Yorkshire championship titles.

Black Dyke produced a huge performance which had all the winning requirements to edge out national champions Brighouse.

Rothwell were placed third with Carlton Main fourth, Grimethorpe fifth and Skelmanthorpe sixth.

It was a memorable triumph for Black Dyke who were expertly conducted by Dr Nicholas Childs. And the best soloist award went to Sheona White of Black Dyke.

The instrumentalist award was won by Lucy Murphy, of Brighouse & Rastrick, and the best principal cornet prize went to Richard Marshall of Black Dyke to complete a great evening for the Queensbury band.

Well done to all concerned! I saw a few tweets and it sounded like a great day at St George's Hall. Good to see Bradford keeping to its roots as it moves forward. I think I'll be there at the finals next year.

Well done to our banding friends at Black Dyke for a superb performance yesterday! Just to add that City of Bradford Brass Band came 2nd in the 2nd Section which yet again means they will be playing at the National Championships (2nd Section) in Cheltenham in September and a special congratulations to Wilsden Band who came 3rd in the Fourth Section, narrowly missing the opportunity to represent Yorkshire at the Nationals. A fantastic weekend for Bradford Brass Bands!!
