Nightclub owner Dean Loynes has unveiled his latest venture – a revamp of Bingley’s former working men’s club.

He will put his plans for the new York Street Sports & Social Club before Keighley and Shipley Licensing Panel during a meeting at 2pm on Wednesday at Bradford City Hall.

But the entrepreneur, who already owns Utopia in Bradford city centre, will have to overcome concerns raised by police and environmental protection officers.

They are worried that, if Mr Loynes is allowed to extend the opening hours for the premises by two extra hours until 1am, it will upset the neighbours because of taxis tooting horns late at night, people leaving, chatting and shouting.

The Council’s noise pollution team is also against him getting permission for outside entertainment for the same reasons.

And the police want him to get a licence to serve alcohol only until 11pm and then apply for a temporary licence whenever he needs an extension for an event or special function.

However, Mr Loynes said he will not be “arm-wrestling” over details and simply ticked all the boxes so his licence bid would be a “catch-all”.

He said: “I have no intentions to stay open until 1am every night. I just don’t want to have to keep putting in an application and paying a fee every time I want to open late. It made sense to tick all the boxes at the one time.”

Work revamping the old club, which shut at the end of last year, should be finished by the end of April.

Snooker tables and darts boards are being moved back into the games room. There will be big screens, showing sport, which although they can be seen in the other lounge areas can only be heard in the games room itself.

A rolling programme of investment will also see a new-look lounge and function room facilities for hire and gigs.

“I’m hoping the venue will bring more people into Bingley and encourage them to stay in the town for the night rather than head for the train station and go to Skipton or Leeds for more entertainment.

“Bingley has no pubs with entertainment apart from TVs and some sports, but we’ll be offering the whole package. We’ll be generating trade for the town which is good news for everyone.”
