Beamsley schoolchildren have been busy making jack in the boxes as part of their studies on the Victorians.

The Boyle and Petyt School children were given a lesson on springs and how to make them by Alex Driver of Skipton-based John Binns Springs Ltd.

The children then made boxes, fitted a head to a spring and decorated the boxes. Headteacher Imogen Addy said it was an education for children and staff.

“As this was a first for us, there were many difficulties which had to be overcome, but this is all part of the learning process and everyone was very pleased with the end results,” said Mrs Addy.
