A terrified mother crashed her car when a crack cocaine addict attacked her from the back seat to steal her bag containing £1,000.
Addict Marina Omer was jailed for 21 months at Bradford Crown Court yesterday after pleading guilty to robbery and common assault on August 24 last year.
Prosecutor Giles Bridge said Omer, of Amberley Street, Bradford Moor, saw the woman withdraw money from a cashpoint in Bradford city centre. Omer asked her to change a £10 note and then got uninvited into her car, asking for a lift home.
Mr Bridge said the woman’s eight-year-old daughter was in the vehicle but the mother was too scared to refuse. As she drove along Leeds Road, Omer grabbed the woman’s bag and hit the mother and daughter on the arm.
In the struggle, the car struck a bollard.
Omer made off with the money but was chased by the mother and daughter and members of the public. She hid the cash under a wheelie bin but it was recovered.
Omer’s solicitor, Anne-Marie Hutton, said she accepted she was going to jail.
Judge Alastair McCallum said Omer had showed no consideration for mother or daughter. He said: “The amount of money that has been spent on you is so much larger than has been spent upon the victims in this case.”
