Aire Valley parking proposals dubbed 'mad'

A senior councillor has criticised “mad” proposals to introduce on-street parking charges in Shipley and Bingley after an influential committee urged the Council to re-think its plans.

Bradford Council’s Shipley Area Committee refused to support the introduction of charging shoppers for parking in the town centres at a meeting on Wednesday.

In a motion to the Council’s executive, the committee stated: “We believe the introduction of these charges will be detrimental to the economy of the towns, will reduce the economic performance of the area and lead to a loss of the vibrancy and choice within the affected communities.”

The committee also raised concerns that shoppers would use nearby residential streets to park their cars for free, causing “additional disturbance and inconvenience” and jeopardising highway safety. Committee member and Bingley Rural Tory Councillor Simon Cooke, said: “I genuinely think this idea is mad.”

Everyone knows this idea is mad and not thought out.
.
The sad thing is why don't the council realise this from the start instead of having to react to outrage from the residents?
.
Is this the best our six figure salary executives can come up? I think if so they should be shown the door.

All the spaces turn over now ,you get a fine if you overstay in the free bays so most people leave on time....that means the only reason for this is to create revenue.....what a greedy lot this council is.

Correct and it's not like it's not already doing harm. Why would you want to do the same damage to Shipley and Bingley as already done to the city centre?

Yes would have been the death of Bingley.
Think it was Simon D'Vali's senior engineer's brilliant idea!!!
