A fierce blaze swept through a Bradford restaurant early today.

The fire broke out at the Taza Grill in Great Horton Road at about 4am.

At the height of the blaze nine fire appliances from stations including Bradford, Fairweather Green, Odsal and Shipley were scrambled to scene.

The fire engulfed the ground and first floors of the restaurant.

Residents of nearby Sumerseat Place were evacuated after thick black smoke got into a block of flats and several people were treated for smoke inhalation by paramedics at the scene.

The road remained closed to traffic earlier today between the junctions of Horton Grange Road and Shearbridge Road while fire investigators worked to establish the cause of the blaze.

Bradford Council building control officers were also inspecting damage to the building while volunteers from the British Red Cross were supporting residents.
