Bradford Park Avenue boss John Deacey admits his side need a ‘fox in the box’ to give their promotion bid momentum.
His team cannot overhaul Saturday’s visitors Chorley in the Evo-Stik League Premier Division after losing in midweek, leaving a four-point gap between them.
Deacey remains upbeat but frustrated at his side’s continued inability to make the most of their chances.
He said: “We missed a big opportunity but there is still half of the season to go.
“We need that fox in the box to get some goals for us but they are in short supply and high in demand, so even I can’t find one.”
Deacey watched his men create a host of chances at North Ferriby United on Tuesday but end up losing 2-1. Had Avenue won that game they would have been just one point behind fourth-placed Chorley.
They remain in fifth spot but the gap between them and the leaders is widening.
“That makes tomorrow’s game a big one but I love the big ones,” added Deacey.
“I thought we played well at Ferriby and, let’s face it, that was always going to be a tough one. We were a bit unlucky but we definitely need a poacher, someone who can capitalise on the chances we are making.
“We must have had at least six one-on-ones on Tuesday night and they all went begging. It is absolutely killing us because we are making things hard for ourselves by not scoring enough times to win games.
“There were also more injuries, mainly because of the conditions. It was very difficult playing as there was a wind and a half.
“Adam Clayton came off injured and Ross Daly took a knock, so we will be keeping an eye on their progress and Rob O’Brien is suspended with a one-game ban for an accumulation of bookings.”
Farsley visit lowly West Yorkshire neighbours Ossett Town in Division One North on a crest of a wave.
Neil Parsley’s men are in third place after winning seven of their last eight league fixtures, a run which saw the boss presented with his November manager of the month award before last Saturday’s 3-1 home win over Woodley Sports.
Farsley, who have striker Dave Stead still sidelined with a pulled hamstring, are now just four points off the summit but have played more games than most of their rivals.
