Otley’s MP has added his voice to those calling for a rethink over plans to close Otley fire station.
West Yorkshire Fire Authority wants to shut Otley and Rawdon stations as part of measures to save £18 million over the next four years.
A decision on its cost-cutting plans, which include closing ten stations and shedding 102 jobs, is due to be taken on Friday but Greg Mulholland (Lib Dem, Leeds North West) has asked for a halt until a full impact assessment is undertaken.
In his letter, he said: “Before any decision is taken it is imperative that a full and comprehensive impact assessment is undertaken by the fire authority in order to ensure that the residents and businesses of Otley are not put at increased risk.”
