A corporate manslaughter investigation has been launched after a psychology student was crushed to death in a nightclub stampede.

Laurene-Danielle Jackson, 19, died in hospital 18 days after the fatal crush at the Lava & Ignite nightclub in Northampton on Wednesday, October 19.

Another clubber Nabila Nanfuka, from Neasden, died on the day of the stampede.

Miss Jackson had started her second year at Kingston University when she attended the DNA Presents Wickedest Wickedest event.

She died in hospital on Sunday, November 6.

In a report to the Northamptonshire police authority last week, chief constable Adrian Lee said the investigation, named Operation Seahorse, was a corporate manslaughter probe.

He said staff had developed a file upload system on the website to allow people to upload photos or videos from the night.

He said: “The investigation continues with work being conducted in conjunction with a wide range of agencies.

“A large volume of statements have been taken along with a huge amount of analytical work. Officers are currently liaising with CPS and others to identify and address the key areas for concern.”

A spokesman for Northampton Police said the investigation wider than just corporate manslaughter, and was also looking at issues surrounding licensing.

He said the investigation was taking time because many of the witnesses were students who came from across the country, but given the gravity of the incident they would “move it along as soon as possible”.
