Businesses are still counting the cost of the massive pipe burst that left many Bradford shops and offices under water, as pitures sent to the T&A show.

And water chiefs have revealed it is likely to be early next week before White Abbey road is opened to traffic again.

More than 70 staff have had to move to temporary offices elsewhere after their desks and computers at Narang Mills in City Road were hit by a deluge of floodwater on Monday night.

Royce Morgan director Keith Sanderson who said: “The water just tore up our car park as though it was a piece of paper and tore it into shreds.

“There was about three feet of water ouside. Cars were submerged. It was unbelievable but inside the destruction was even more so,” he said.

Work has now started to repair the burst piple, once Yorkshire Water has completed its task other utility service providers will have to carry out their repairs before the road can be surfaced and fully openend.

It is expected part of the road will have to stay shut to traffic until early next week but businesses in the area are now opening as usual.

Pedestrians can get access to all of White Abbey Road, except directly outside Atique Textiles where the burst happened, and there is parking in streets nearby.
