A four-year-old with a heart condition has been told he must attend a school which will cause him to walk up a steep hill against doctors’ orders.
Benjamin Atkinson’s parents are threatening to educate their son at home if an appeal to the Local Ombudsman’s Office is unsuccessful.
His mother Tracy, 37, a bank worker, and father Stephen, 45, a mechanic who works nights, are battling against the decision to send Benjamin to Home Farm Primary School, Buttershaw, in September.
The family lives in Lidget Green on the fringes of Clayton, and after being turned away from the oversubscribed Clayton Church of England and Clayton Village primaries – despite Benjamin attending the former school’s nursery for 12 months – they were given their third preference.
