Yeadon hauled themselves back from the brink of defeat to clinch a place in this season’s Solly Sports Crowther Cup final with a nail-biting one-wicket win at Kirkburton yesterday.

Yeadon will now play Methley at Liversedge on Monday, August 29 after they defeated Ossett by six runs in an all-Central Yorkshire League semi-final.

The writing appeared to be on the wall for Yeadon when they slumped to 53-7 in reply to Kirkburton’s modest 179 all out.

But the Sovereign Health Care Priestley Shield holders are renowned battlers, and Darren Machell (70) and Ryan Mooney (46no) turned the game around with an eighth-wicket stand of 102.

Once they were parted, Mooney completed the job of steering his side home with just four balls to spare.

Earlier, Richard Machell took 3-29 as Yeadon’s bowlers performed steadily to bowl their opponents out.

Steve Jepson (63) and John Newsome (32no) were the top scorers for Kirkburton.

Methley skipper Andy Ward took 4-29 as his side dismissed Ossett for 206 to seal their narrow win.

Gavin Goodlad (38) top-scored for Ossett after earlier picking up 3-30 as he and Matthew Beaumont (3-24) proved to be the most successful members of their side’s bowling attack.

Matthew Waite (46) played a sound innings for Methley which enabled them to post what just proved to be a winning score of 212.
