Idle pulled off one of the surprise results of the season as they defeated Division Two leaders Lightcliffe by one wicket in a thrilling JCT600 Bradford League game.

Such an outcome seemed unlikely when Idle plunged to 11-3 in reply to Lightcliffe’s 220-8. But Luke Heinemann (76) and overseas player Carleon Brome (58) revived their side’s fortunes with a fourth-wicket stand of 138.

Once they were parted wickets began to fall and at 187-8 it looked as if the match had swung Lightcliffe’s way again. But Michael Kelsey (36no) had other ideas and guided his side to victory with five balls to spare.

Lightclffe’s total had been built around a solid innings of 80 from opener Chris Taylor. Rhys Jowett (47) and Mark Horne (32no) were the other main contributors, while Kelsey (3-51) was the most successful Idle bowler.

With second-placed Saltaire defeating Spen Victoria by 126 runs, Lightcliffe’s lead has been reduced to 15 points.

Saltaire looked in trouble when they slid to 39-5 but Tinashe Gomwe (94no) and Joe Hicks (46) revived their side with a fifth-wicket stand of 109 which helped post a total of 220-8.

Spen were never in the hunt when they replied. George Deegan made a battling 42 but the rest of the batting melted away as they were dismissed for 94, Ijaz Khan (4-26) and Azhar Sharif (3-14) doing much of the damage.

Yeadon are third after defeating Keighley by four wickets, their sixth win in seven games.

Off-spinner Damon Gormley demonstrated why he heads the divisional bowling averages by taking 6-37 as Keighley were bowled out for 144. Opener Freddie Pearson made 57 but his side could not capitalise.

Youngsters Ben Elvidge (42no) and Callum Goldthorpe (30) steered Yeadon to victory, despite some good bowling from Paul Quinlan (4-35).

Bowling Old Lane beat Bankfoot for the second time this season to take possession of fourth place.

Left-arm spinner Mohammad Hanif claimed 5-59 as Bankfoot were bowled out for 167 in reply to the hosts’ 229-7, with opener Gary Wainwright (40) top-scoring.

Opener Raqeeb Younis made a fine 92 for Old Lane, while Mohammed Khan’s unbeaten 65 brought a welcome injection of runs in the closing stages of the innings.

Morley’s overseas player Kashif Naveed hit an unbeaten 101 to steer his side to an emphatic nine-wicket win over bottom side Windhill.

Naveed struck two sixes and 15 fours as he dominated an unbroken second-wicket stand of 138 with teenage left-hander James McNichol (42no) as Morley raced past the Windhill total of 175-9.

Mahesh Patel (59) and Moslin Hussain (41) had been the main contributors for Windhill, while pacemen Matthew Dowse (4-20) and Nathan Bromby (3-54) bowled well for Morley.

All-rounder Simon North hit an unbeaten 78 and took 3-33 as Hartshead Moor recorded a comfortable seven-wicket win over second-bottom Brighouse.

Brighouse posted 199-7, with Chris Maloney (41), Adam Brown (37) and skipper Will Smith (32) leading the way against good bowling from North and Jonathan Gould (3-46).

North and Graham Hilton (38) put on 141 for the third wicket as Hartshead Moor won with 12 overs to spare.
