A little kitten nicknamed Tiny Tony is being nursed back to health after he was found dumped in a wheelie bin in Keighley.

Volunteers at Haworth Cat Rescue have been looking after the kitten since he was handed in to the local charity on Friday.

“Last year there was a national outcry over the cat dumped into a wheelie bin by a passerby yet this sort of cruelty is all too common,” said Haworth Cat Rescue campaign manager Corinne Moore.

“The only difference was that she got caught and whoever did this to little Tony hasn’t.”

She said the person who found the kitten wished to remain anonymous but that the charity had their details.

Craven College work experience volunteer Paul Feather has been helping to care for Tiny Tony since his arrival.

He said: “The poor little kitten was very frightened when he first got here and growled every time anyone approached. Now he has settled down and purrs when he sees me.

Corinne added: “The majority of people are far too complacent and assume we are still an animal loving nation. The testimony of all those involved in animal rescue would suggest this is far from the truth.”
