I don’t think anybody was surprised to see Dave Syers pick up the players’ player of the year award.

It was well deserved for the impact he has had. It was pretty unanimous and I imagine the only other vote was whoever he went for.

Dave is probably the only positive to come out of the season. It’s just a shame with it being so bad that the actual awards were cancelled or I’m sure he’d have walked off with a load of trophies.

When he first came in, Dave’s ambition was just to break into the team. Now he’s scored ten goals and is probably the first name on the teamsheet for whoever is in charge.

People will obviously be looking to see how he adapts second time round. Whether this season was just a fluke or flash in the pan.

He needs to keep up the good work and not go round thinking that he’s already cracked it.

But knowing the type of lad he is, that won’t be a problem.

Opponents are going to be looking out for him more. All the scouting reports will have him down as a dangerous box-to-box midfielder with an eye for goal.

He’ll probably be marked more tightly at set-pieces and holding midfielders will be told to look out for his late runs. But I’m sure Dave is good enough to overcome all that.

He can feel proud enough with what he’s achieved so far and hopefully this will be the start of a successful career.

The sponsors have not had much value for money this season but it was a good do the other night and I’d personally like to thank the Shelf Bantams for their support with me.

It’s been a poor season but it would be nice to sign off with a win tomorrow.

Some are saying it could be the last game at Valley Parade but the players are as much in the dark as everybody about that.

These are obviously worrying times but it’s out of our control.

I just know the chairmen will be working damn hard every second to resolve the situation. They have the best interests of the club at heart.
