Winger Myles Weston reckons the thought of never having played at Wembley was the inspiration behind Brentford's Johnstone's Paint Trophy triumph over Exeter City.

The 22-year-old set up both Sam Saunders and Gary Alexander's first-half strikes as the Bees beat the Grecians 2-1 at St James' Park to claim a 3-2 aggregate southern area final win.

Caretaker boss Nicky Forster reminded his men of the fact he had never played at the famous venue in his long career, prior to Monday's game.

Brentford have not reached Wembley in 14 years - although they have played at the Millennium Stadium twice in that time - and Weston admits that thought was the driving force behind their success.

"I've never been to Wembley. Before the game Fossie told us it would be a very nice feeling to go down there," he said.

"He has played for nearly 40 years and never played there and now we've got the chance. It is brilliant."

Weston played a decisive part in all three Bees goals across the tie, but he says it was all in a day's work for him.

"I'm a winger, I provide and I try to score as well," he added.

"I set up two goals for Sam and Gary, and I'm happy with my performance."

Saunders, who notched his first goal of the season, once worked on the London Underground while playing part-time football at Carshalton Athletic before breaking into the professional ranks.

And he admitted he was in dream land.

He said: "Six or seven years ago I was working nights for a living and never thought this would happen.

"Obviously I appreciate every day and it is magnificent to get there."
