I WITNESSED today, what most motorists have seen themselves, a driver using a mobile phone. Surely something more could be done.
This particular driver was driving a flat-bed breakdown lorry, not a small saloon car on a quiet road, which would be bad enough, but a lorry negotiating Cemetery Junction at noon with its driver chatting on the phone.
Firstly I question the sanity of that person. Secondly shouldn’t I have been able to take a photograph of the culprit, which I could take to the police? They could then identify him and get evidence from the phone compnay about who was using the phone at that time.
That should be enough proof to fine the company concerned a few thousand pound, which could be divided between a nominated charity and the police to cover their costs? It should be shouldn’t it? But we all know it never will be.
