A teenager who was killed when a car flipped onto its roof after a police pursuit has been named by the West Yorkshire force.

Matthew Norman, 18, of Horsforth, died and two others were badly injured when their car crashed.

Another 18-year-old remained in a critical condition in Leeds General Infirmary yesterday.

The third man, a 19-year-old, was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

They had been spotted at 9.30pm on Tuesday by officers in a marked police car near Leeds Bradford Airport.

It followed them after they failed to stop.

As the silver Peugeot 106 entered Otley, the officers backed off because of the way the Peugeot was being driven.

It was then seen by the force helicopter to have crashed and landed on its roof near the entrance to St Helena’s Caravan Park in Otley Old Road.

The force’s Professional Standards Department and the Independent Police Complaints Commission have been notified.

Any witnesses should contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 01924 293047.
