A team of schoolgirls have raised an impressive £5,000 for charity in two weeks by running a series of money-spinning enterprises.

Pupils at Belle Vue Girls’ School in Heaton, Bradford, organised a disco, sold personalised badges, held an auction of their artwork and hosted a charity dinner to raise the sum for Islamic Relief.

Sixth form student, Zaira Hussain, 18, also organised a bazaar. The charity will use the money to provide help for victims of the Pakistan floods.

Students presented a cheque to Jehangir Malik, UK managing director of Islamic Relief.

Mr Malik said: “We can’t do anything for those who died, but we can do a great deal for those who survived. Your donation will pay for two new homes housing two families giving them privacy, safety and shelter.”
