A Bradford mother who has lost five stone to improve her health is Bradford Council’s latest B active award winner.
The award recognises the determination of 58-year-old Pamela Sellers to battle a range of health problems by getting fit. She lost nearly five stone in the last couple of years, going from a size 30 to a size 22.
Mrs Sellers, of Cooper Lane, Bradford, suffered from high blood pressure and diabetes and was told by her doctor that she needed to lose weight to alleviate these conditions.
Staff at Richard Dunn Sports Centre helped put together a programme of exercise and she took part in Aquasize keep-fit classes. The results were staggering, with Pamela losing two-and-a-half stones in just over six months.
She said: “I was overweight and unhealthy and I knew I needed to do something about it as I wanted to fly to Canada and was told my blood pressure was too high.
“I was determined to get fit and lose weight and I’m really proud of myself and I hope other people will see if I can do it then so can they. I really enjoy the keep-fit classes and all the staff are very friendly and have given me a lot of support, help and advice.”
Pamela achieved her goal of flying to Canada and said her main problem now was having to buy a new wardrobe of clothes.
Councillor the Rev Paul Flowers, portfolio holder for Culture, Tourism and Sport, said: “It’s great to see how regular exercise, together with a healthy diet, has played such a big part in helping Pamela to regain her health. She is a great example to us all. We are delighted to be presenting her with our latest b active award.”
Bradford Council’s B active campaign was started in 2003 to encourage people to be more physically active.
Awards are given out in recognition of outstanding achievements in encouraging others to be physically active.
