The England Homeless World Cup team was presented with a cheque to ensure their passage to the Homeless World Cup in Brazil, before a charity match in Bradford this afternoon.

Richard Brown, manager of England’s Homeless World Cup team, was presented with a sponsor’s cheque before the match between veterans of the team and footballing legends and celebrities, including Bradford City manager Peter Taylor.

The match, which featured Leeds United manager Simon Grayson, Bantams legend Peter Beagrie and actor Tom Milner, of Waterloo Road and Holby City fame, was held at Eccleshill United’s ground to raise money for the England team and charity One In A Million.

Mr Brown received the cheque from sponsors WinkBall to ensure his team participates in the tournament in Rio de Janeiro later this month.

He said: “WinkBall are our key sponsors for this year’s tournament and without them we wouldn’t be able to get to Rio.

“They came in and are working with us now on a long term basis to get the Homeless World Cup and the England World Cup team into a better position.

“Today was about raising the profile of both the England Homeless World Cup team and One in a Million, raising a bit of money for them both and having a nice game of football.”

One in a Million was co-founded by Bradford City assistant manager Wayne Jacobs, who also took part in the match, to help young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

He set it up with Matthew Band, who said a donation from the event will also be made to the Bradford City Burns Unit Appeal.
