Big Quit Week will help smokers stub it out

Smokers are being encouraged to stub out their habit by joining in the local NHS stop smoking service’s Big Quit Week.

Starting on Monday, September 20, stop smoking advisers will be out and about with the stop-smoking bus at venues across Keighley giving people help, advice and support to quit for good.

Sue Wilson, a specialist with the stop smoking team, said: “Stopping smoking is the best thing anyone can do to improve their health – no matter how long they have smoked for.

“Our roadshow will give people an opportunity to find out what help is available on their doorstep. They can also sign up for support on the day if they have already decided to stop smoking. Treatment will be provided, such as patches, gum and inhalers – most of which is free at the moment.”

Everyone is welcome but on the morning of Friday, September, 24 local midwives are joining the team, to offer help to mums and dads-to-be.

To make an appointment with a stop smoking adviser, or to find out how they can help, call (01535) 295320 or (01274) 202793, or text the word ‘quita’ to 88020 and someone will call back.

The stop smoking service will be at the following venues: Monday, September 20: 9.30am to noon, Keighley Market; 2pm to 4.30pm, Airedale Centre Tuesday, September 21: 9am to 11.30am, Alston Retail Park; 1pm to 4.30pm, Keighley College Wednesday, September 22: 8.30am to 12.30pm, Sainsbury’s; 1.30pm to 4pm, Church Green Thursday, September 23: 8.30am to 1pm, Asda; 2pm to 4pm, Leisure Centre/Victoria Park Friday, September 24: 9am to 1pm, Church Green; 2pm to 4pm, Aldi supermarket.
