Up to 300 jobs are at risk at a Bradford banking centre following moves by Royal Bank of Scotland to halve the number of its administration offices around the UK.
The part-nationalised bank is planning to axe another 3,500 jobs across back office and IT functions in the business services arm – coming on top of the division’s 9,000 job cuts announced last year.
The cuts include the planned closure of the bank’s administration office in Kingfisher House in Filey Street, which employs about 300 people supporting both the high street and business banking operations.
An RBS spokesman said the office was due to close by the end of 2012, although it could be later. He confirmed that, although it was likely that staff would be offered the opportunity to transfer to other centres, some 300 jobs were affected.
One staff member at the Bradford centre, who did not want to be identified, said staff had been shocked by yesterday’s announcement. She said some workers had been left in tears.
