Lee Bullock column

Our win against Nottingham Forest was the perfect tonic after the way we had started our league campaign.

All of us will admit we were disappointed with the defeat against Shrewsbury but the cup win has given everyone a lift.

It’s great for morale and belief and it also sends out a message about what we’re capable of.

Now if we can put together the second-half performance from the Forest game with the first-half performance from Shrewsbury, then we’ll be pretty hard to beat.

There were so many good performances on Tuesday night but Jon McLaughlin deserves mention for the way he played even after picking up an injury. He was absolutely superb.

It was good to see Dave Syers get a goal too. Ever since he arrived in the summer, his attitude has been brilliant and he could be another good addition to the squad.

Although he’s making a step up to play at this level, since the first training session he’s never looked out of place.

The way the fans got behind the lads was superb as well. They played their part and the place was really rocking, so it just shows what it could be like if we do well this year.

We struggled a bit at home last season, nobody can deny that, and although it’s early days, if we put in a few more performances like that – starting with Stevenage tomorrow – it’d be massive for us.

On behalf of all the players, I would like to pass on our best wishes to Exeter and to the family of Adam Stansfield after he passed away this week.

It’s tragic to see someone die so young from cancer, so our thoughts are with them.
