Saturday is the last practice match for Bradford Park Avenue before their season begins in earnest the following weekend.

Avenue have had a packed pre-season schedule and end it with the visit of AFC Fylde to Horsfall Stadium.

The squad under-performed last Saturday in a 5-1 home loss to Harrogate Town so will want to sign off in style against the west-coast visitors.

“It was disappointing last weekend but nothing was lost apart from a bit of pride,” said Avenue boss Simon Collins.

“It was better that it happened then rather than next week when we play Chasetown in the opening Evo-Stik Premier Division fixture.

“We had a little chat about things in the dressing room after the game and the players held their hands up. They didn’t need telling that most of them had had an off day, so they looked each other in the eye and will move on.

“They put in a great display against Droylsden, who are in the Blue Square North with Harrogate, a couple of weeks earlier. That just tells you the only thing lacking is consistency and that can be worked on.

“There are also a few players missing through injury and we are still trying out a few different things. We are working on systems and getting the players settled into what we want from them at certain times.

“Myself and Chris (assistant Chris Billy) sat back on purpose last week when things were going wrong on the pitch. We needed to see which players were leaders and organisers so we, the management team, learned a lot.”

Collins still has injury concerns and is still fine-tuning his squad. He hopes to make further signings but some of the players on trial over the pre-season will not be offered terms.
