Staff and partners at business advisory firm Deloitte battled through howling winds and a heatwave in an event that helped raise £1 million for charity in just one month.

A team of cyclists from the firm’s Yorkshire office joined 100 partners and staff in the inaugural 1,000-mile Deloitte Ride Across Britain event from John O’Groats to Land’s End, which was one of a series of fundraising events.

Ben Eaton, an assistant director in corporate finance advisory from the Leeds office, said: “Being part of the Ride Across Britain was a fantastic experience and a great personal challenge. I feel proud to have helped the firm raise this incredible sum which will make a significant difference to the lives of people across the world.”

The cyclists are now planning to undertake the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge next month to raise funds for Dogs for the Disabled and St Anne’s Community Services.

In October two of the team, Dan Renton and Kate Hayes, will also be among the 100 Deloitte employees climbing Mount Kilimanjaro with the aim of raising £250,000 for Deloitte’s national charity partners Cancer Research UK, Help For Heroes and Children with Leukaemia, and for Deloitte’s partnership with the African Rainforest Trust.
