A taxi driver who raped a young mother in the back of his cab may be jailed indefinitely as a dangerous offender.

A judge told Mohammed Ahmed: “This is a predatory attack by a man in the course of his work on a lone 19-year-old female.”

Ahmed, 42, of Clifton Villas, Manningham, Bradford, was yesterday convicted by a jury of twice raping the teenager.

She got into his minicab outside Bradford University after a night out in the city last October. Ahmed drove her to a lane and raped her, saying: “I’ll show you a good time”, Bradford Crown Court heard.

Judge John Potter remanded Ahmed in custody to be sentenced on August 12.

He said the way he gave his evidence in court showed “a complete indifference to his victim.”

Judge Potter asked the probation service to assess how dangerous Ahmed was. “It is quite clear to me that this case merits a significant and long custodial sentence,” he said.

The judge warned Ahmed he might receive an indefinite prison sentence for the protection of the public.

Ahmed’s barrister, Sophie Drake, said he was married with four children and had surrendered his passport.

But Judge Potter refused Ahmed bail.

During the trial, the woman said she was enjoying her first big night out since suffering from post-natal depression.

She could not recall leaving the bar or getting into a taxi.

Security cameras caught her alone on a wall and Ahmed’s cab stopping to pick her up.

She told the court she remembered the driver taking a wrong turn.

After raping her, Ahmed dropped her off near her home at 2am.

The jury was played a tape of the woman sobbing on her phone after she dialled 999 to report that she had been raped.
