This year’s summer gala at the West Yorkshire Fire Service headquarters in Birkenshaw is going to be twice as big as previous years following the completion of building work.

All three emergency services will be taking part, supported by a number of life-saving charities.

The fire service will have a number of fire engines and specialist equipment and staff at the event, including aerial appliances, turntable ladders, chemical protection units and the Urban Search and Rescue team.

The West Yorkshire Police helicopter will also be at the event as well as a police dog display, firearms unit, underwater search unit and specialist riot van.

The Yorkshire Ambulance service will also have a range of ambulances at the event, including a cycle response unit.

Gala committee chairman Brian Hughes said: “The emphasis will be on providing information while having lots of fun.”

The popular Army assault course will be back again this year, along with the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service Band, Bradford Bulls, a farmers’ market, dance troupes majorettes and more than 80 stalls.

Mr Hughes said there was still space available for anyone wishing to participate, calling in particular on charities, sports clubs, community groups and commercial organisations. Charities and volunteer organisations can attend free of charge.

The gala is set to take place from midday on Saturday, July 10, at the headquarters in Bradford Road, Birkenshaw.

The entrance fee for the gala will be £1 for adults, children under 12 free.
