A huge fundraising fireworks display will be even bigger this year thanks to a funding boost worth thousands of pounds.

The annual Myrtle Park Bonfire in Bingley, will reach new heights in November as it reaps benefits from a £4,000 sponsorship deal with Shipley-based developers, Magellan Residential.

The organisers, Baildon Round Table, said the cash would allow it to raise even more for local charities.

The money will be put towards extra advertising and special banners to be placed on the Bingley Relief Road.

The charity is hoping to attract up to 5,000 extra visitors this year.

More than 10,000 spectators descended on the park last year to see a first-class pyrotechnics show featuring Pulse radio DJs and food stalls as well as the bonfire and fireworks.

Chairman of the Round Table, Stuart Hargreaves, said: "The show is definitely going to improve. We will be able to reach out to people we could not get to last year.

"We want to get as many people through the door as possible. Our main aim is to raise as much money for charity as possible."

He added: "Hopefully we'll be able to get them as an annual sponsor."

Last year the display raised between £8,000 and £11,000 for charities including the Police Benevolent Fund, Bingley Swimming Club, The Disabled Riding Trust in Bingley, Bradford Cathedral Choir and the Tsunami appeal for earthquake victims in Asia.

More than 100 security staff and volunteers helped on the day.

Mr Hargreaves said: "We benefit all kinds of groups. We've helped children go on exchange trips to Japan and the homeless people. We often help community groups that help to volunteer on the day."

The display will take place on Saturday, November 5.
