NEIL Parsley and his new assistant Trevor Storton have recruited heavily for the new UniBond season and it seems to have paid off with two victories in their opening league games.

Leek Town 0

Guiseley 2

In their opening game at Leek Guiseley managed to take the points despite the opposition being awarded two penalties. One was saved by new 'keeper Matt Taylor and the other was put wide.

Leek's new striker Andy Kinsey was the culprit missing twice from the spot and Guiseley took advantage to notch their first opening day win in seven years.

The opening half was packed with incident but Dave MacPherson and Ryan Brown spurned two chances apiece whilst Roy Stamer on his debut for Guiseley saw his shot crash down off the underside of the bar.

Guiseley broke the deadlock in the 26th minute when David Henry stooped to glance home a cross from Nathan Hay at the near post.

Their second came from big defender Lee Connor in the 76th minute.

Guiseley 1

Gateshead 0

Guiseley kept another clean sheet and took the points against a lively Gateshead side on Tuesday night.

They are up with the early pacesetters in the UniBond Premier Division and all augers well for their derby clash with the much fancied Farsley Celtic at Throstle Nest on Monday (3 pm).

Dave Henry was on target again for Guiseley snatching the opener in the fifth minute after good work by skipper Jeremy Illingworth.

Gateshead posed an attacking threat but Lee Connor and young Danny Ellis stood firm in the centre of defence while at times Simon Parke was back to help out with some thundering headers.

Guiseley pressed to the end as they tried to add to their tally with Mark Stuart twice going close to scoring and new signing

Matt Smithard coming on as a late substitute battling to make an impression.

Manager Neil Parsley said: "You cannot ask for better than six points from six.

"They have come from two very contrasting performances so that it very pleasing for Trevor and myself.

"We played some excellent football at Leek and we had to battle a bit against Gateshead. They are a good side with two excellent defenders and a lad up front who I rate very highly."

Guiseley Reserves continued their excellent start making it three wins in three games beating Southport 4-1 on Saturday.

Rob Day netted a hat-trick and Danny Forrest netted the other goal.

The first team entertain Burscough on Saturday and the Reserves travel to Accrington.
