Ben Rhydding: Two new lady members played superb golf to come home with amazing scores in the Medal 7 competition.

Mr President, John Hartley, hosted his Ladies Day earlier this month and provided some beautiful prizes chosen by his wife, Lady Captain, Susan. All the members were delighted by the return to form of the very popular winner Dorothy Welsh.

She won with with 34 points, second was C Lambert with 34 and third M Scott with 33. Nearest the pin was J Guthrie and nearest the line W Laughey.

There was a good turn out of members for the battle of the Ramsden Trophy, when the ladies played the holders, the men.

Although the ladies played 'extraordinarily well', in the words of Mrs Hartley, they lost. A delighted Alvin Leverton, Vice Captain and team captain on the day, praised his players for 'turning up the heat' as with much laughter and good humour he paraded the trophy.

Following the match Sue Towler, with support from Shirley Firth, provided a well-earned and much appreciated supper to all of the players. Days such as this are a credit to this club famed for friendliness and support of players at all levels of the game.

The August Medal at Ben Rhydding was played in very hot sunny weather.

The Ramsden Trophy the annual match between ladies and men was won by the men with a magnificient score of 499 points.

HARROGATE UNION JUNIORS: Harrogate Juniors having finished their highly successful league campaign, played a friendly match at York. With an eye on next year's campaign, Bill Caw, the Junior Co-ordinator, gave debuts to four promising young golfers - Michael James (Romanby), Curtis Wilding (Oakdale), Will Marlow (Otley), and Jack Lampkin (Ilkley).

Despite pairing the newcomers with more experienced players the morning foursomes were a bit of a disaster for Harrogate as they lost all six matches to trail 12-0 and then lost the singles 13-11, Marlow winning his for an overall 25-11 defeat.

The Juniors finish their season when they participate in the Yorkshire Inter-District Junior Team Championships at Otley today, Thursday.

COOKRIDGE HALL: The final of the 2005 Seniors' Matchplay Knock-out took place last Friday and it was a fiercely contested affair, played in good spirit between old orienteering friends last year's winner, Mike Robinson (11) and Michael Askey (21).

As befits two golfers who had battled their way through five previous rounds, neither player gave any quarter and, as they approached the 18th tee, all was still to play for. It was though Mike Robinson who finished on top.

Three senior ladies took on a two-round challenge in aid of the Captain's Charity for the year-the Air Ambulance Service. Betty Emberton and Diana Abel were joined by Diana's friend, Jackie Carpenter from Ben Rhydding GC, and they stoically took on the 36 holes with gusto, raising £400.

Skipton: The Ladies held an Invitation day. Winners were Tracy Bentley and Margaret Oversby with 46 points. Second were Shirley Twigg and Sylvia Eastwood with 43 points on a countback from third placed Barbara Cowling and Brenda Oates who also scored 43 points. Fourth were Penny Clark and Brenda Walker with 41points.

The Lady Past Presidents and Lady Past Captains' competition was won by Daphne Murgatroyd with 36 points.
