Otley residents may be updated on plans for Wharfedale General Hospital at a public meeting.

A taskforce of councillors met with the health secretary Frank Dobson last week when it was confirmed a new hospital would be built in Wharfedale.

At the meeting at the Department of Health in London, council leader Coun Sue Egan, three of her colleagues and Harold Best MP argued for the safe future of the Otley hospital with Mr Dobson and Dr Bill Kirkup, the region's director of planning.

And now, councillors are considering calling a public meeting in the next couple of months when the Leeds United Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust's new business case for the hospital should be out.
