THE landlord of a Barnoldswick pub is among five people facing serious charges following an incident at the licensed premises in the early hours of Saturday.

At least three local people were left with serious injuries following the incident, which happened at the Greyhound Hotel, on Manchester Road, at about 1.30am.

Five people were arrested and appeared before Burnley magistrates on Monday morning.

Paul Whiteley, the 46-year-old landlord of the Greyhound Hotel, was among them.

He is charged with conspiring to cause grievous bodily harm to Gaynor Moulson and Rafe Stanford-Heins, both of whom had been working at the pub.

Facing the same charges are Whiteley's ex-wife, Dawn Kelly, 36, and her husband Thomas Kelly, 41, both of Second Avenue, Swinton.

Also appearing before the magistrates were 49-year-old Graham Cartwright and his 24-year-old son, Glen Graham Cartwright, both of Manchester Road, Kearsley, Greater Manchester.

Both are charged with violent disorder and wounding.

All the cases were adjourned until February 4 and all five defendants were granted bail until then with various conditions attached.

Whiteley was bailed on condition that he lives at an address in Albion Street, Earby, and does not approach any prosecution witnesses.

The Kellys were granted bail on condition that they do not contact any witnesses, and the Cartwrights were bailed on condition that they continue to live at their home address, observe a 10pm to 7am curfew, and do not enter Barnoldswick or contact any witnesses.

It is understood that a number of people were attending a private party at the pub when the incident happened.

Following it, Barnoldswick man Mark Barnett - whose family once ran the Greyhound - received 16 stitches to a head wound.

Gaynor Moulson also received hospital treatment and has an arm in plaster.

The pub remained closed over the weekend but re-opened on Monday.

l Paul Whiteley is a well-known figure throughout West Craven, having worked as a reporter for the Barnoldswick-based Town Crier newspaper before taking over as landlord at the Greyhound Hotel last year.
