Oakworth Village Morris Men will rise at the ungodly hour of 4.30 in the morning next Friday to 'Dance in the Summer' as the sun rises over Cowling Pinnacle. It is an Old English custom that Cotswold Morris sides used to dance on May 1 as the sun was rising to bring fertility to the land for the year.
It is the second time the Oakworth Village Morris Men will celebrate this event locally.
Squire Mark Ashton says: "Traditionally this event is done on the highest peak in the area, which to our knowledge is Cowling Pinnacle. The Oakworth Village Morris Men are hoping that people from around the area will join the celebration of summer and come and support them this year, regardless of the hour.
"We are still in need of new dancers, and particularly musicians, as our present melodeonist is retiring at the end of our dance season.
For details, contact Mark on 644581 or attend a practice night at Oakworth Methodist Church, which are held on Monday nights from 8pm onwards.
