MEMBERS of a group promoting the interests of Otley say they have taken 'great exception' to a supermarket sign on the edge of town.
As the Wharfedale Observer reported last week, the Booths Supermarket advertising hoarding at Piper Lane declares 'Best go to Ilkley'.
It has provoked anger among a number of traders and now the Otley Town Partnership is taking the issue to an advertising watchdog.
Councillor Phil Coyne, chairman of the Partnership, said: "We discussed at our meeting on Wednesday night and we are particularly offended by it.
"We will be writing to Booths to point that out and also to the Advertising Standards Agency to see if we can do anything about it. It's just unacceptable knocking copy."
A spokesman for Booths Supermarkets told the Wharfedale Observer last week that no offence had been intended by the sign which was simply to let people know where the Ilkley store was.
