A Bradford office furniture store manager has come up with an ingenious way to beat two problems at once.

Kelly Wheatley, manageress of UBS Office Furniture in Sunbridge Road, has acquired a Smart car - designed by Swatch and made by Mercedes - which is small enough to park anywhere and big enough to transport smaller pieces of office furniture.

"Parking is terrible round here and it also helps to have a small car when we are making deliveries. We can get a filing cabinet or chair in it - so when people want their purchases delivering quickly we can do that as well," she added.

And she says improved customer service, including delivering goods to customers even when the delivery lorry has gone on its travels, has helped boost sales by 15 per cent in the last few months.

She works with sales assistant Leanne Kirby who has been with the firm for just over a year. She said: "We have also tidied and improved the look of the showroom and now more customers are coming through the door."
