Otley schoolchildren have been helping to plant trees on the Chevin to mark the new millennium.
The scheme was dreamt up by Otley and Wharfedale councillor Graham Kirkland who gave £3,000 from his ward based initiative money towards the project.
Pupils from Ashfield Infant and Nursery School, All Saints Junior, Whartons Primary, All Saints Infants, St Joseph's Primary, Westgate Infants and Chippendale Junior School spent Tuesday and Wednesday last week braving rain on the chevin to plant the trees. Together, the 2,000 trees - a mixture of oak, hazel, hawthorn and dog rose - will link in with the Chevin woodland design plan. Denise Preston, the acting director of Leeds City Council's leisure services, said the Chevin had beautiful views over the Wharfe Valley with a wide variety of wildlife.
"Leeds works closely with councillors and residents to ensure that it remains that way.
