An Oxenhope man was attacked with a soda siphon as he tried to recover his car which had been stolen from outside his house the night before.

The 50-year-old man, from the Uppertown area, was struck on the face and elbow by a young man wielding what appeared to be a soda siphon as he tried to get his car back.

The vehicle had been stolen overnight on Thursday of last week and was tracked down by the owner and his daughter the following day to the car park of the Lamb Inn, in Denholme Road.

When he went to recover the car, at 5pm, the owner saw three men with the car, one of them was sitting inside and appeared to be attempting to pour petrol over the vehicle.

On confronting the three men, the car owner received threats of violence. One of suspects then picked up a soda siphon bottle and waved it in front of him, striking his face and elbow in the process and causing minor injuries.

The suspects then ran off and jumped into a grey Vauxhall Nova, driven by a young woman, who appeared to have a young baby in the back seat of the car.

The first suspect is described as a white male, in his late teens, with a local accent, dark hair cut in a basin style and shaved at the back, a plump build, fresh complexion and wearing dark trousers and a white zip-up jacket. The second is a white male, also in his late teens, with a local accent, 6ft tall, with short cropped light brown hair, clean shaven, plump build and wearing a khaki coloured top and dark trousers. The third is of a similar age to the first two, and was wearing dark clothing.

The female driver of the Nova is described as aged between 18-20, of plump build, with shoulder length bleached or dyed blonde hair.

Sergeant Allan Gee says: "We are looking for anyone who may have been in the vicinity at the time or anyone who may have seen these three men and the woman in the area while the vehicle had been abandoned."
