Darren Barton was back to winning ways at Oulton Park on Sunday in the seventh round of the British 250cc Championship.

'Chief', as he is known, sensationally took his Helphire Bike Assist-backed Honda RS250 to victory by just 0.16 of a second from Yamaha's Callum Ramsey in front of 23,000 spectators. The two-part race had to be stopped after six laps of 16 due to an incident which had left debris on the track.

On the restart over 10 laps Barton hit the front with four laps to go and was never headed again.

"After our recent disappointment this is just what I and the team needed", said Barton. "When the race was stopped we were able to make slight adjustments to the chassis and carburation. This was vital as I was able to hit the front and control the race."

Team manager Robin Appleyard added: "Chief's a class act. We felt as soon as we got the motor sorted he would be back to winning ways. Everybody has kept positive in the last few weeks after our run of mechanical failures and worked very hard. They all deserve the win!"

Barton's team mate Kenny Robinson in the 125cc class finished 14th. Struggling to get a good set up all weekend, Kenny was disappointed with his form but looks set to improve at the next round at Knockhill.
