The second Graded Grand Prix Meet at Harrogate proved to be a good hunting ground for City of Bradford swimmers, who landed a total of 15 golds, 14 silvers and seven bronzes.

Triple golds went to 20-year-old Lindsey Battle in the oldest age group (16 yrs plus) for the 50 and 200 metre breaststroke, and the 50m freestyle.

And her a silver in the 100m breaststroke, again in a personal best, provided a theme for most of the event.

Neil Farmer, 17, captured the 16 plus 200m breaststroke for boys in a best of 2min 54.38sec.

Three swimmers took double golds. Jamie Harrison from Skipton won the 13yrs 100 and 200m butterflys in 1-16.05 and 2-47.95 respectively.

And he was issued with speeding tickets for his 100m backstroke and breaststroke swims for going faster than the allowed time.

In the 14-15 years age group, Chris Soames, 15, took the 50m breaststroke and 100m backstroke, and 11-year-old Brendan Watson picked up double gold for the 10-11 yrs 100m IM and 200m freestyle, both in best times, team-mate Michael Goggs taking silver in the 100m IM.

Heading the single gold winners were sisters Hazel and Lorna Dawson, elder sister Hazel, 12, swimming to victory in the 12-13 yrs 200m breaststroke in 3-12.03 while Lorna, ten, swam in the shorter 50m breaststroke in a best of 46.67sec.

The remaining single gold winners were 15-year-old Oliver Roberts for the 14-15 yrs 100m IM, and Simon Johnson and Bryony Senczyszyn, both 13, for their wins in the 50m freestyle and 100m backstroke.

The last of the Graded Grand Prix is a long course (50m Pool) at Leeds next weekend.

Record entries were received for the Bingley schools' gala at Shipley Pool, more than 200 pupils taking part.

Twenty primary schools contested events in the years one to four age groups and 22 schools in the years five to six.

Winners of the trophy for the years one to four were Myrtle Park Primary School, with Eldwick and Crossflatts primary schools second and third.

In years five and six, Saltaire Primary School beat St Walburga's Catholic Primary School by one point, Cottingley Village Primary coming in third place.

In a separate event, Myrtle Park won the Bingley SC's Primary Schools' mixed relay team championship, just pushing St Walburga's into second.

Trophies and medals were presented by Pauline Bilevych (Bradford & Bingley plc), and Chris Leslie presented cheques of £2,500 each from Bradford & Bingley plc and Sportsmatch to sponsor the club for the next three years, including the gala which is run at no cost to the schools.

A team from Bingley Swimming Club successfully defended the Pennine Shield at Barnoldswick - a series of galas between Bingley, Skipton Dolphins, West Craven and Ilkley Swimming Clubs.

On the following day a team travelled to Chapeltown (Sheffield) and retained the Oldfield Trophy.
