Woodlands clinched the title on the last day of the season after a tense afternoon at Bradford Cathedral College.

Heading into their final games, Woodlands and U-Save were locked together on 56 points with Woodlands holding the advantage due to their superior goal difference.

And, despite U-Save beating Prince of Wales 5-2, Woodlands held their nerve to beat Wagon & Horses 3-0 and secure the championship.

U-Save did everything right in their match against Prince of Wales and moved into a two-goal lead in the first half with strikes from Daniel Meleschko (penalty) and Craig Reed.

Prince of Wales came out fighting in the second half and, inspired by a Charlie Wright goal, put U-Save under sustained pressure.

U-Save weathered the storm and put the game out of reach with goals from Lee Stranney, Justin Simmons and a second from Reed.

Prince pulled a goal back from James Dores in the final minutes but it proved too little too late.

Meanwhile, Woodlands were made to work hard to overcome bottom club Wagon & Horses and it was not until the 38th minute before the league leaders got onto the scoresheet through Chris Holdsworth.

Wagon missed several chances after the break to restore parity and were made to pay for their wayward finishing when Mick Hirst scored two goals in the final half-hour to clinch the title for Woodlands.

Earlier in the week, Prince of Wales beat White Hart United 5-0 in the T&A League Supplementary Cup final.

Man-of-the-match Shawn Jack opened the scoring before United were reduced to ten men following an off-the-ball incident.

Ben Cahill made it 2-0 and, after the break, goals followed from Daniel Hodgkin, James Dores and Charlie White sealed the victory.

l On Saturday U-Save are holding a special benefit match in honour of Dave Mallett, who died a year ago playing for Nags Head.

The match kicks off at 2.15pm at Trinity Road and is between the present U-Save and Eastern United/U-Save old boys.

All proceeds from the match will go to Dave's family, so come along and give your support to this special match.
