Bobby Vanzie wants to see lightweight champion Graham Earl knocked off his perch tonight.

The Bradford fighter is a frustrated spectator as Earl defends his title against Steve Murray at Bethnal Green.

Vanzie is still fuming over his second controversial loss to the Luton boxer in June and will be hauled before the British Boxing Board of Control on August 11 to explain his post-fight reaction. But they will not investigate referee Terry O'Connor's handling which annoyed Vanzie's camp so much.

The former British and Commonwealth title-holder expects to have the book thrown at him. He could be banned from the ring for up to six months, although that will be back-dated to the night of the defeat.

But Vanzie intends to tune in for Earl's clash with Murray, a dangerous opponent who the Yorkshireman beat in an explosive encounter in 2001.

And there is no doubt who Vanzie will be supporting.

He said: "I really hope Murray does it because there is no way that Graham Earl deserves to still have an unbeaten record. I should have been the winner on two occasions and he was also very lucky against Jon Honney.

"Earl is definitely not British title material. His limit should be area champion and nothing more than that."

Vanzie smashed Murray in a real up-and-down affair after twice being dropped to the canvas.

"Murray's main weakness is his chin, he's got the proverbial glass jaw. But the last time I saw him in action he looked fantastic, he was a lot sharper and moved his head much more."

Earl won the previous encounter with Murray in February last year but Vanzie is not convinced.

"I don't think that should have been stopped. It was a premature decision because Earl doesn't hit that hard.

"But Murray can knock you out with one shot as I've experienced. He has got the arsenal to blow Earl away."

Earl has made it clear that there will be no third instalment against Vanzie.

He said: "Even if it was ordered, the belt would be put aside and I'd move on to bigger and better things."

Vanzie is pencilled in by his promoters to next appear on the Carl Thompson and David Haye undercard at Wembley Arena on September 10. That will obviously not take place if the board decide to get tough next month.

He added: "I'm not going to get the chance to really have my say and I expect to be out of the ring for a while.

"But I've got to look to do what benefits my career."
